  PATER,

Peggy Lou (Cooper) nee Steele, age 78, was born Christmas Day, 1935, and “went out with a bang” over the beautiful holiday weekend on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at Hospice of Hamilton, surrounded by family.

Peggy is survived by her children Barry (Barb) Cooper, Jeff (Monica Wilson) Cooper, Mike (Donna) Cooper, Brian (Diane) Cooper, Jody (Jim Fenske) Cooper, Cody Sines and Kai Sines; her stepchildren Kris Netherland and Kirk Netherland; her grandchildren Matthew and Emily Cooper, Carrie (Toby) Sanan, Kevin (Emily Fenske) Cooper-Fenske, Casey (Seigo Nishimura) Cooper-Fenske, Kory Cooper-Fenske, Jessica Cooper, Jaret and Cody Sines, Christopher and Brandon Cooper, Abigail and Carson Cooper, Lynn Netherland, Stephanie Childs, and Krystal and Christopher Netherland; great grandchildren Henry and James Sanan; and numerous extended family and friends; she is preceded in death by her parents Otis and Edna Steele, two brothers, Otis and John Steele, and beloved husband Donald Pater.

Peggy graduated from Goshen High School in 1952, and worked as a LPN at Providence Hospital and Community Multicare, among other places. She was married to her first husband, Leonard Cooper, for 27 years and welcomed five children into the world. On October 10, 1981, Peggy and Don Pater were married and lived a full life together until his passing on November 24, 2004. Peggy was a former member of Forest Chapel U.M.C., and an active member of St. Mark’s U.M.C., serving on the Worship Committee with Don for ten years and teaching Sunday School for decades     . She was especially grateful for the lifelong care and support of Drs. Richard Dammel, Dogan Temizer, Lindsay Bibler, Ellen Feld, Donna Stahl and their partners and staff, for the kindness and professionalism of the Good Samaritan Western Ridge E.R. and U.C. Medical Center Mobile Intensive Care Unit, and for the love and care of Dr. Ranga Brahmamdam and partners, and the Good Samaritan Hospital and Hamilton Hospice nurses and staff, in her final days.

Peggy’s spirit and legacy live on in the countless lives she has touched with truly selfless, unconditional love and support, including those of her family, the children she has taught, and the numerous people in need and charities she has sponsored throughout the world.

Celebration of Peggy’s life begins Thursday, July 10, 2014 with visitation (9AM) and a service (11AM) at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 4601 Fairfield Ave., Fairfield, OH 45014, with Rev.
