Age 87 of Fairfield passed away Thursday, March 18, 2010 at Mercy Hospital of Fairfield. He was born June 23, 1922 in Hamilton, the son of Fred and Anna (Sprauer) Plapp. Ray attended school at St. Peter's and Hamilton High School. He was a WWII Veteran of the US Army 99th Division, HQ Battery Artillery from December 1942-December 1945. There he participated in three major battles: The Buldge; Remogen Bridgehead Over the Rhine and the River Valley. Ray was associated with the Highland Dairy for 20 years, West Side Motors and the Butler County Water Department. On July 18, 1975 Raymond married Carolyn Lockett-Chaney in Hamilton, OH. He attended the Laurel Avenue Church of Christ.
Ray leaves behind his loving wife, Carolyn Plapp; nieces and nephews, Steven, Connie, Barbara and Donna. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bill and Fred; infant sister, Dorothy; and niece, Shirley.
Mr. Plapp enjoyed bowling with his wife, flying on a private license and traveling over 48 states and fifteen countries. He was a life member of the VFW #1069 and the American Legion.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at the Avance Funeral Home & Crematory, 4976 Winton Rd., Fairfield with Charles Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at St. Stephen Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Monday at the funeral home.
