TOWERS, Rebecca "Becky" (nee Swope),
Passed away Monday, April 21, 2008. Becky was born January 21, 1922 in Welch, WV to George and Sue Rector Swope. She spent her childhood and teenage years in Asheville, NC and Bluefield and Princeton, WV. She graduated from Princeton (WV) High School in 1939. Becky came to Cincinnati in 1939 to attend the University of Cincinnati where she graduated in 1943 with a BA in Art from the College of Design Architecture Art and Planning. While at U.C., she met the love of her life, Lloyd Towers. They were married on February 20, 1943, and recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
Over the years, Becky used her artistic talents in many ways, including paintings, prints, and sketches. Her friends and family especially looked forward to the creative designs of her annual Christmas cards each holiday season. Her special love was interior decorating, which she accomplished with skill and flair in her homes and those of others. Becky and Lloyd acquired a number of properties, all of which were upgraded with her extraordinary touch.
In addition to many family gatherings, Becky and Lloyd enjoyed traveling, live theater, and bridge. She greatly valued her group of life-long friends from her college days. They were avid fans of the UC football and basketball teams, as well as the Cincinnati Reds.
Becky is survived by her husband, Lloyd; three cherished children, Kitty (Paul) Menchen of San Antonio, TX, Peggy (Randy) Stertmeyer of Cincinnati, and Russ (Laurie) Towers of Asheville, NC; four grandchildren, Lee and Gene Majors, Eric Menchen, and Ian Towers; three great-grandchildren, Brandon, Danielle, and Madelyn Majors, as well as many cherished cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Lloyd Douglas Towers, a sister, Sue Swope Hunt, brother-in-law Ken Hunt, a brother, George Alderson Swope and his wife, Florence.
A Celebration of Life will be 4-7 p.m. Wed., April 23, 2008, at the Avance Funeral Home & Crematory, 4976 Winton Rd., Fairfied. Services and burial will be private. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice. Condolences: avancefuneralhome.com.
