Rethel Jeanotta Fights

Age 86, passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, August 11, 2008. She was born on May 26, 1922, in Casey County, Kentucky, and was a resident of Fairfield, Ohio since 1955. She attended Berea College, Lindsey Wilson College, Eastern Kentucky University, and Miami University, earning certification in Primary School Education. Affectionately known as Miss Rethel, she started in one-room schools in Kentucky, improving the lives of countless children until retiring from Amanda Elementary School, Middletown, Ohio in 1962. On January 5, 1946, she married Will Robert Fights and together they had four children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Hardin Russell and Hester (Meeks) Russell; and two brothers, Charles "Red" Russell Jr., and Rollin Russell. She is survived by her loving husband; children, R. Mearieia (Gary) Martin, of West Chester, Ohio, Will Robert (Kimberly Honeycutt) Fights Jr., of Hamilton, Ohio, Leisa Jeanotta (Michael) Dennehy, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and James Hardin (Jerri) Fights, of Cincinnati, Ohio; one brother, Raymond (Ruth) Russell, of Liberty, Kentucky; three sisters, Rudene (Fred) Kolb, of Oxford, Ohio, Betsy (James) Conatser, of Louisville, Kentucky, and Sharlene (Marty) Nowak, of Decatur, Alabama; one sister-in-law, Jewell Russell, of Fairfield Township, Ohio; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
