Richard Park Davis

August 14, 1929 — November 16, 2024

Fairfield

Richard Park Davis, 95, of Fairfield, passed away on November 16, 2024 after a brief battle with cancer.  Dick was born on August 14, 1929 to Zell and Donna Davis in Newark, Ohio.  As a young man, Dick joined the Army Air Corps and served his country both here and abroad.  After leaving the Air Force in 1949, Dick met Edith, and they wed in 1951, going on to have 3 daughters, Cindy, Mary, and Laurie.  Dick & Edith loved square dancing, but as their children were growing up, they left it behind for a while.  Once the girls were grown, they went back to dancing, even teaching classes at the Hayloft in Winton Woods.  Dick also served as publicity chair for the National Square Dance Convention for 5 years.  Following retirement from the City of Fairfield Street Department, Dick got involved in woodworking, making many signs, pens, boxes, centerpieces, and mementos for family and friends.  Dick & Edith also enjoyed traveling – visiting family & friends, attending square dance and barbershop conventions, and even just vacationing for fun!  Besides his family, Dick’s greatest love was barbershop singing.  He started singing in the chorus and quartets in Newark, Ohio in 1960.  After moving to Fairfield, Dick joined the Delta Kings Chorus of Cincinnati and continued singing until just a month before passing.  He served in many capacities with the Delta Kings, and was awarded 6 Person of Note awards, including Barbershopper of the Year in 2006.  In his later years, Dick got pleasure from gardening and feeding the birds and squirrels in his yard.  Many an afternoon would find him sitting in the sunroom or on the front porch being entertained by their antics.  Dick is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Edith; his three daughters, Cindy (Bob) Nixon, Mary (Ira) Begley, and Laurie (Dan) McCoy; his 8 grandchildren, Jennifer, Carrie, Katie, Ira J III, Robyn, Brian, Matt and Kim; and 15 great-grandchildren.  A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Fairfield on Saturday, November 23.  Visitation will be at 11:00 a.m. with the service to follow at 12:00.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Mark’s United Methodist Church www.fairfieldstmarks.com , the Delta Kings Chorus www.deltakings.org or a charity of your choice.  www.avancefuneralhome.com
