Robert Henry Greiwe

Robert Henry Greiwe, 89, of White Oak died Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at Hospice of Cincinnati in Blue Ash. He was born in West End (Cincinnati) on April 22, 1929 to parents August and Augusta (Lahmann) Greiwe of Grambergen, Germany. Robert moved with his parents to Schledehausen, Germany in 1931, where he worked in the family’s general store. He turned 16 in 1945 and always counted himself lucky that the war ended before he was drafted into the German Army. He returned to Cincinnati in 1950 and was drafted into the U.S. Army. He was stationed at Landsberg Prison in Germany with the Office of the Provost Marshal General, where he assisted with translation, mail, and other tasks associated with the holding of Nazi War Criminals. Robert was an employee of the Cambridge Tile Manufacturing Company for 35 years. He married Hilda Ossenbrink of Schledehausen, Germany on April 12, 1958. They were dedicated partners and were able to celebrate their 60th anniversary together shortly before his death. Robert received a B.S. in Business Management from the University of Cincinnati after many years of evening school. He enjoyed wood-working, Cincinnati Parks, and his grandchildren. Robert is survived by his wife Hilda (Ossenbrink) Greiwe, daughter Diane Greiwe (J. David Hacker), grandchildren John Henry, Daniel and Claire Hacker, and nephews and nieces Birgit, Liane, Volker and Norbert Greiwe, and Maike Ossenbrink. He was preceded in death by his younger brother Walter Greiwe. Services for the immediate family will be held May 12, 2018 at 1:00 pm at the chapel in Arlington Memorial Gardens, 2145 Compton Road, Cincinnati, OH 45231.
