Robert D. Smith age 86 of Fairfield passed away Sunday March 13, 2005 at Mercy Franciscan at Schroder. He was born September 7, 1918 in Flint, MI, the son of Robert F. and Luella (Richter) Smith. On July 24, 1999 he married Joan (Amiot-Brenner-Conway) in Hamilton. Robert was a WWII Veteran, serving in the US Army from 1942-1945 in the 37th Ordnance Company in Brisbane, Australia and New Guinea. After returning from war, he graduated from the University of Michigan obtaining an Engineering Degree, which allowed him to work as a Chemical Engineer until his retirement.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Joan; daughter, Christina Claxton; sister, Betty Emerson; granddaughter, Amy E. Claxton; cousins, Shirlie (Mike) Jablonski; 1 niece; 3 nephews; step-children, Karen (Steve) Brenner Maslowski, Barbara (Kelly) Brenner Ivie and Ron (Kristi) Brenner; 8 step-grandchildren; and 3 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his first wife Shirley (nee Mindrop) on October 28, 1998.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. - until time of memorial service (12 Noon) on Saturday March 19, 2005 at the Avance Funeral Home & Crematory, 4976 Winton Rd., Fairfield.
