Robert F. Wessel

Robert F. Wessel, age 89 of Fairfield Ohio, passed away peacefully at Westover Retirement Community on Saturday, February 4, 2012. He was born in Hamilton, Ohio on April 26, 1922, the son of Frank and Margaret (Fontaine) Wessel. Robert was a graduate of Oxford Stewart High School, Miami University, where he was a member of Phi Tau fraternity, and the Chase School of Law. He served during WWII with the United States Army in the 83rd Infantry division and fought at the Battle of the Bulge. Robert was instrumental in forming the city of Fairfield and was the first Mayor of the Village and of the City of Fairfield. He served for many years after as City Solicitor. Robert practiced law for 60 years in the Rentschler Building (Key Bank Building) in Hamilton Ohio and just recently closed the doors to his practice on September 30, 2011. He is survived by his wife Helen Brinker Wessel; son, David Brinker-Wessel; sister, Mary Margaret Bachman; brother, Richard J. Wessel; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Robert's cherished organizations - Elisha Morgan Farm Mansion, Fairfield Historical Society and the Fairfield Community Foundation, 5350 Pleasant Ave, Fairfield, OH 45014. Avance Funeral Home serving the family. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
