Roy E. Goebel age 79 of Hamilton passed away January 8, 2006 at Hospice of Hamilton after a brief illness. He was born May 2, 1926 in Hamilton, the son of James and Florence (Zimmerman) Goebel. On August 24, 1946 he married Jolene Wilberding in Williamstown, KY. She preceded him in death on March 6, 2001. He married Gracie White on October 15, 2001 in Gatlinburg, TN. He served in the United States Navy during WWII from 1943-1946 and was a life time member at VFW Post 1069. Roy worked at Champion International Papers for 41 years retiring in 1987. He was a member of St. Marks United Methodist Church in Fairfield.
He is survived by his children, Pam (Hugh) Guynes of West Chester, Charlotte (Bruce) Rotroff of Fairfield and wife Gracie (White) Goebel; stepdaughters Peggy (Terry) Klinzing, Bev (Gary) Stacy and Julie (Will) Thompson; grandchildren Shay Irwin and Jeff Guynes, Kristi Allen, Tracey Klinzing, Heather, Jennifer and Brian Stacy and 3 great-grandchildren, sisters Norma Little of Hamilton, Flo Moore of Fairfield, and Helen Layton of San Antonio, TX and brother James "Joe" Goebel of Fairfield. Roy was preceded in death by his son Donald, his parents and sisters Hazel Brown and Dorothy Hesselbrock and brother Don Goebel.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Thursday January 12, 2006 at St. Marks United Methodist Church, Fairfield, with Rev. David Long and Rev. Robert Klingel officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 11th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Avance Funeral Home & Crematory, 4976 Winton Rd., Fairfield.
