Sandra "Sandy" Kay Walter

Sandra “Sandy” Kay Walter (née VonDielingen), age 84, of Fairfield, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 20, 2025. Born on August 25, 1940, in Seymour, Indiana, to Carl and Frieda (Spieker) VonDielingen, Sandy carried a lifelong dedication to education and faith.

A proud graduate of Concordia University, River Forest, Illinois, Sandy embarked on a fulfilling career as an educator. She taught first and third grades in Lutheran schools across Columbus, IN, Cuyahoga Falls, OH, and Hamilton, OH for over 30 years, touching the lives of countless students with her kind and patient demeanor and her commitment to sharing the love of Jesus.

It was in Cuyahoga Falls that Sandy met Richard "Rick" Walter, and they were united in marriage on November 22, 1969. Their 55-year marriage was a testament to enduring love and partnership.

Sandy found immense joy in her personal pursuits. She was an avid gardener, taking pleasure in nurturing growth and beauty. She also generously dedicated her time to volunteering, always eager to contribute to her community. Above all, her greatest happiness stemmed from her family. She cherished every moment with her loved ones and was particularly known for baking delicious cookies for her beloved grandchildren, Blake and Paige.

Sandy is survived by her devoted husband, Richard “Rick” Walter; her sons, Michael A. (Heather) Walter and Mark A. Walter; and her cherished grandchildren, Blake and Paige Walter. She also leaves behind her sisters, Patricia Baker and Joyce (Mike) Thompson, and her brother, Carl (Cathy) VonDielingen, along with many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother-in-law, Joe Baker.
