Shirley A. Cox, born Shirley Ann Martin — known as "Shirl" to those back home in Stearns, Kentucky — went to meet Jesus on Tuesday July 14, 2026. She was 88 years old.
Born November 5, 1937, Shirley was the first of ten children born to Londa and Homer Martin. You might hear her say that they didn't have a lot growing up, but they didn't want for much. They always had strong faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, worked hard, and had plenty of song in their lives.
Shirley worked many jobs throughout her life, including at Mack Shirt Corporation, C. J. Krehbiel Company, Southwest Publishing, and the roller-skating rink — taking on any job she could to help support her children's ambitions.
Shirley, a devoted child of faith, found great joy in volunteering at church, singing in the choir, and spreading the word whenever she was able. She also loved to sing with a trio. Those who knew her, or worked alongside her — even on her most painful days — will remember her kindness, wit, and strength.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Paula Coyle, and husband Geoffrey; her son, William "Mark" Webb, and wife Mary Ann; her only grandson, Mitchell Gilb Webb; her sister-in-law, Judy Martin; her brother, Ronnie Martin, and wife Patty; her sister, Joan Playforth, and husband Mike; her brother, David Martin, and wife Joy; many beloved nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family and friends who held a special place in her heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Londa Martin; her sister, Nancy Matthews; her brothers, Bill, Jim, Bobby Dwight, and Donnie; and her youngest sister, Beverly Fancher.
Services will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at First Baptist Church of Milford, 1367 Woodville Pike, Milford, Ohio 45150. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., with services at 11:00 a.m., followed by burial at Landmark Baptist Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Bearing Precious Seeds Ministry or to missionaries associated with First Baptist Church of Milford.
