Stephen “Peanuts” Gordon
Stephen Michael Gordon, 66, passed away Thursday, August 8th, 2024, at Hospice of Blue Ash, Cincinnati, Ohio. Steve was preceded in death by David J. Gordon (father), Sharon Gordon (sister), and Scott Gordon (brother). Steve leaves behind his mother, Helena, daughter, Sydney (Tyler), sister(s) Stephanie (Jerry) Brewsaugh, and Susan Cummings, grandchildren Ava, Grayson, and Penelope, along with nieces and nephews. Close family friends Dick Ruwe and Sandy O’Neill.
Steve, known to many as “Peanuts” on and off the softball field, always knew how to have a good time, he did not know a stranger. Steve worked as a printing salesman for Service Graphics for 40 years. He was also well known in the softball community; he worked 34 years as an ASA umpire. Steve umpired at several local Cincinnati parks as well as traveling as far as Colorado, Oklahoma, and Canada. Steve had the privilege to work in 23 nationals and was rated one of the top 20 umpires in the nation by ASA/USA softball. Steve was most proud of being inducted softball Hall of Fame in 2019.
Steve was equally as proud of his daughter, Sydney, and granddaughter, Ava. During their soccer games, he would intently run up and down the sides of the field cheering them on. The girls always knew which way the wind was blowing, as Steve would pull up blades of grass and throw them in the air to tell them when the wind was at their backs! During soccer tournaments, Steve brought everything for a picnic, grill included, then have a cook-out in between games, known as the “grillmaster” by teammates.
Stephen was born to Helena J. Gordon (nee Ventura) and David J. Gordon April 7th, 1958, in Cincinnati, Ohio. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 21st, 2024, from 10:00am – 11:00am at Avance Funeral Home, 4976 Winton Road, Fairfield, Ohio, 45014.
