Thomas Kenneth “Captain Papa” 1940-2016

Fair Winds and Following Seas

It is with great sadness and true honor to say goodbye to our beloved Tom. Noting someone's courageous battle with death by cancer, he was surrounded by his loved ones as he peacefully passed on February 11, in his 75th year. Tom is survived by his loving wife Leslie K. (Hatfield), daughters Rosemarie Reck & Julie Eubank, granddaughter Brittany Aho, brother of Susan Reck. son-in-law Keith Eubank, brother-in-law Bill Smith, sister-in-law Denise Murray and nephew Christopher Hobbs and preceded in death by his son Gregory Thomas Reck and brother-in-law Mike Murray. His honors include Graduate of U.C. College of Pharmacy, a Pilots license in the 1970’s, Licensed Boat Captain, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Commodore of “The Admirals” at Lighthouse Point Yacht Club in Aurora, IN., Founder and President of B.I.C. Incorporated., served in various positions and currently Vice President of the Eagles 407 in Hamilton, OH where he received 3 national awards for outstanding publication .Tom always listened to people, never left anyone out, and had a real passion for helping others. This translated into years of loyalty. He was a very caring and compassionate person. He was able to command anyone’s attention and was a natural born leader. Tom was an avid boater, enjoying numerous boating adventurers; he loved to take you on a boat ride and listen to music while the sun beat on your face, and you could feel the wind blow. He had a true appreciation for the outdoors and loved to wake up on his boat. He would sit and stare out on the water’s edge with a cocktail and soak it in. Tom knew how wonderful life was and appreciated it immensely. It was the simple things around him in life that he never took for granted, how fortunate and thankful he was. Above all, Tom was absolutely devoted to his wife, he always said “I never knew what real happiness was until I met Leslie”. He was a proud father, brother and grandfather who always involved himself in every detail of his children’s lives and believed, supported, respected and loved his family unconditionally…he never said goodbye without a hug or handshake. He was a man of faith, believing in the power and strength of love. Tom is reunited with his father, mother, beloved son and longtime friends he so missed. Long live the beauty that comes down through and onto all of us.“I was given the gift of life, and now I have to give it back”…Captain Papa In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Memory of Tom Reck to Eagles 407,820 Pyramid Blvd., Hamilton, OH 45013.  Visitation will be held February 18, 5-7 pm. and Funeral Services will be held February 19, 12:00 pm at Avance Funeral Home, 4976 Winton Road, Fairfield, OH 45014 A Memorial/Celebration of the Life immediately following will be held at: FOE 3680 Fairfield Eagles, 8560 Michael Lane, Fairfield, OH 45014.
