Age 89, of Trenton passed away August 29, at the VA Medical Center, Cincinnati, OH. He was born in Hawkins Co. Bulls Gap, Tennessee, October 29, 1919, eighth of 11 children born to Will and Pheobe Cavin. On November 13, 1946, he married Rose Fern Skidmore who passed away April 23, 2001. Vean was a dedicated family man devoted to his wife and a great father to his two sons. Vean loved to work in his garden and share its bounty with all his many friends. He served his country in the US Army during WWII, and was a former POW, captured in the Battle of the Bulge. He retired from Nicolet Industries Sall Mountain Paper Co. in 1979, when it ceased operations. Vean was a member of Chuck Cain Post 7670 VFW, Overpeck, Am Vets Post 1983, Hamilton, DAV Post 131, Middletown, and the Monkey Mutual Aid Society, Hamilton. He was also a member of The Honor Flight which went to Washington D.C. in September, 2008 which he greatly enjoyed.
He leaves behind his two sons, William (Cokie) of Cincinnati, OH, and Stephen of Raymond, OH; brothers, Thomas (Doris) Cavin of Sevierville, TN, Earl Cavin of Hamilton, and James Ray (Lucille) Cavin of Pigeon Forge, TN; nieces, nephews and countless friends whose lives he has touched.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nursing staff of the VA Medical Center and Nursing Center, and the VFW Post 7670 for all their caring and support.
Visitation will be 5-7:30pm Wednesday, September 2, 2009, at the Avance Funeral Home, Fairfield, Ohio. Service will be 10:30am Thursday, September 3, 2009, also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Butler County Memorial Park with Chaplain Don Reed officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Chuck Cain Post 7670 Honor Guard, Auxiliary Charities.
