DIEFENBACHER, Vernon L. "Pitt"
Age 101 of Hamilton, passed away Thursday, January 29, 2009 at Berkeley Square. Pitt was born August 12, 1907 to the late Charles and Phoebe (DuVall) Diefenbacher. Dr. Sill came by the family home on S. Front Street to make the delivery. Pitt graduated from Hamilton High in 1925. His first job was at Hamilton Foundry then he worked at SOS as an inside steel salesman. Pitt was the oldest member of the YMCA. He was a life member of BPOE-Elks #93 and the oldest as well as longest member of the Masonic Lodge Hugh Bates 686. On November 25, 2008 Pitt received his 80 year pin.
Pitt married Fannie Lou White on December 12, 1980 in Hamilton at the First Church of Christ. He and Fannie enjoyed many evenings playing cards and dancing. Pitt was a fan of Big Band music and of Bix Biederbecke. He was fond of sports, especially the Cincinnati Reds. As a young man Pitt was a baseball catcher. He also enjoyed the game of golf.
Pitt will be forever remembered by his stepdaughter; Barbara (Dick) Begley, grandchildren; Brad (Jerri) Begley and Brian (Barbara) Begley, great grandchildren; Adam, Brooke, Kaitlyn and Lyndsay Begley as well as Ann, Charlie and Francine Diefenbacher and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Fannie and brother, Meldon Diefenbacher.
