Virgil Charles Gase

Virgil C. Gase

Age 95 of Fairfield, passed away January 2, 2017 at West Chester Hospital.  Born in Hamilton, OH, November 11, 1921 to the late Virgil C. and Lillian G. (Schisler) Gase, he was a graduate of Hamilton High School (Class of 1939).  Virgil served 3 years in the US Army during WWII which included action in Europe in three campaigns with the 75 th Infantry Division, 290 th Anti-Tank Co. (The EAME Medal had a service star for each), Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge), Alsace (Colmar Pocket) and Rhineland (Ruhr Pocket).  Other medals awarded were:  Bronze Star for meritorious service; Victory; Good Conduct; American Campaign; WWII Lapel Button and badges, Sharpshooter with Rifle Bar, expert with Pistol Bar and Combat Infantry.

A former employee of Mosler Safe and Champion Paper, Virgil retired from Body by Fisher, a Division of General Motors, Hamilton Plant, after 37 years of service to the Tool and Die Department.  He was a member of Local 233 UAW, 75 th Infantry Division Association and life member of the DAV.

Virgil played trombone in several swing bands in the 1940 & 50’s and was a graduate of Ohio Mechanics Institute of Cincinnati.

On September 4, 1942 in Brookville, IN, Virgil was united in marriage to Seattie “Marie” Stacy, who preceded him in death on October 8, 2007.  To this union 4 children were born:  Edward A. (Diana); Charles R. (Betty); Pamela J. (Barry) Snyder; and Sandra E. (David) Burnette.  Other survivors include:  sister, Vivian (Richard) Huber; 12 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.  He was also preceded in death by his parents,  and 2 brothers, Jack E. and Earl A. Gase.

Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Thursday (TODAY), January 5, 2017 at the Avance Funeral Home & Crematory, 4976 Winton Rd., Fairfield, OH   45014.  Funeral services will be 2 pm, Friday at the funeral home.  Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Hamilton.  Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV)
