Virgil Wardlow

June 4, 1931 — April 6, 2005

Virgil L. Wardlow, age 73, of Hamilton, passed away in Mercy Hospital, Fairfield, at 4:10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 6, 2005. He was born in Crab Orchard, Kentucky on June 4, 1931, the son of Casper "Cash" Wardlow and Mollie (Walters) Wardlow. On April 12, 1957, he married Nellie Mayes in Hamilton, Ohio. As an active member of First Baptist Church in Hamilton, he has served as trustee, Sunday school treasurer, and usher. Virgil had a great love of flying, and obtained his private pilot license in 1955. That same year, he purchased a mobile home park and car salvage lot, naming them Airway Mobile Home Park and Airway Motors. He later built two more mobile home parks and obtained his multi-engine, instrument rating, and commercial licenses. Virgil owned and operated an air charter business at the Butler Regional Airport from 1991-2003. As a jack-of-all-trades, he helped build a corporate hanger for the air charter, and two of his own residences. One of his greatest joys was taking his family, especially his grandchildren, flying. Everyone who knew him admired his sense of humor and quiet way. He also enjoyed having coffee and swapping stories each morning with his many friends at Reds. Ever the daring adventurer, he obtained his CDL license at age 71 and motorcycle permit at age 72.

Virgil is survived by his wife, Nellie; daughters, Linda Dunaway and Cindy (Mike) Shalloe; granddaughter, Molly Shalloe; grandsons, Michael and Benjamin Shalloe; great-granddaughter, Aeris Roark; siblings, Pauline (Oscar) Cornett, Bill (Mary) Wardlow, Nancy (James) Gordon, Leonard (Willie) Wardlow, Louise (Roger) Gabbard, Jerry (Nancy) Wardlow, Janice Bond, Robert Wardlow, Bessie Burkett, Jimmy Wardlow, Anna Mae (Ernest) Hopkins, Lloyd Wardlow, Richard Wardlow, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law, Michael Dunaway, and grandson, Joshua Dunaway.
