William Hughie Stephens

December 23, 1924 — October 19, 2006

Age 81 of Fairfield, formerly of Fayetteville, TN passed away Thursday, October 19, 2006 at Tri-County Extended Care in Fairfield, OH. He was born December 23, 1924 in Lincoln County, TN, the son of William Lonner and Emma Mae (Hargrove) Stephens. William was a member of the Church of Christ and was self-employed as a farmer and produce retailer. Before his retirement, he was a member of Teamsters Local #100 and was a driver for Roadway Express.

William is survived by daughters, Deania (Jim) Hurst, Cornelia (Ron) Murray, Patty Gerdes, Teresa (Mark) Durbin, and Candi Childs; grandchildren, Michael Hamilton, Shannon Grathwohl, Sean Murray, Michelle Moran, Aaron Gerdes, and Emily Durbin; great-grandchildren, Ashley Baker, Erika Grathwohl, Brittany, Alex, Kristian, Olivia, and Madison Hamilton, Taylor Moran, Maggie Gerdes; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Coy, Blakely, and J.E. Stephens, Bonnie McAlister and Annie Gray; and son, William Anthony Stephens.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff of VITAS and Tri-County Extended Care for the loving care of their father, Bill.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. (EST), Monday, October 23, 2006 at the Avance Funeral Home & Crematory, 4976 Winton Rd., Fairfield, OH 45014. Also, visitation will be 11 a.m. (CST) - until time of service (1 p.m.), Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at the Higgins Funeral Home, 213 East Market St., Fayetteville, TN 37334 with Brother David Swanger officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville, TN. Memorials may be made to VITAS Hospice, 11500 North Lake Dr. Ste., 400, Cinti, OH 45249 or Alzheimer's Unit c/o Tri-County Extended Care, 5200 Camelot Dr., Fairfield, OH 45014 Also, the family will accept condolences at www.avancefuneralhome.com
