Age 76 of Fairfield passed away on Friday August 4, 2006 at Mercy Hospital of Fairfield. He was born on January 10, 1930 in Hamilton, OH, the son of Byron Andrew and Henrietta (Hake) Koger. Bill retired from Mosler Safe Company after 45 years of service, where he began as a welder and retired as a Supervisor. He was a member of "The Winning Combination" team in 1988 that designed and prototyped a new money safe. Bill was recognized with several service awards during his years of employment at Mosler. He also was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Greenville, OH and attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fairfield.
Mr. Koger was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His greatest joy throughout his life was to be surrounded by his family. He was dearly loved and deeply blessed to have his family near him and involved in his daily life. Bill's family was his source of comfort and they were with him constantly until the end of his life. He will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched.
On September 9, 1950 he married Martha D. Harmeson in Union City, IN. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Martha; 2 daughters, Karen (Thomas) Brown and Janet (Jim) Kernohan; 6 grandchildren, Greg (Lindsey) Brown, David Brown, Jason Brown, Kevin (Sylvia) Kernohan, Kelly (Ryan) Johnson, and Kristy Kernohan; 2 great-grandchildren, William Tyler Kernohan and Emma Marie Johnson; 1 brother, Lowell (Mary Ann) Koger of Gettysburg, PA; 3 sisters, Vivian (Joe) Subler of Greenville, OH, Alice (Dillard) Cornett of Richmond, IN, and Claire Ann Brock of Clearwater, FL. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Thurman Koger and Robert Koger; and sister, Loraine Potter.
The family is grateful to the Nurses and Chaplains at Mercy ICU and 3 Tower for their compassionate care and support.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 2 p.m., Tuesday August 8, 2006 at Sacred Heart Church, 400 Nilles Rd., Fairfield, OH 45014 with Father Larry Tharp, Celebrant. Burial will follow at Millville Cemetery. Visitation will be 12 noon - 1:30 p.m., Tuesday August 8 at the Avance Funeral Home & Crematory, 4976 Winton Rd., Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Also, the family will accept condolences at www.avancefuneralhome.com.
