Willie Jones, a true man of God, passed peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Friday, May 29, 2026, at Mercy Hospital in Fairfield, Ohio. He was born on May 17, 1933, in Corbin, Kentucky, to the late Henry and Betty Jones.
Willie is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Katherine, with whom he shared 65 blessed years of marriage. He is also preceded by his sister, Lettie, and brother-in-law, Chester Dizney, as well as his brother-in-law, Arlie Veer.
He is survived by his daughter, Vickie Cole-Martin (Stephen Martin); his son, Stephen Jones (Diane); his sister, Betty Ruth Veer; and his brother, Billy Ray (Meta) Jones. Willie was a proud grandfather to Justin (Laura) Cole, Brandon (Angela) Cole, Brennan Jones, Rachel Smith, Matt (Jessica) Martin, and Liza Martin-Voge (David). He was also blessed with great-granddaughters Madison, Lexi, Sophia, Charlotte, Lillian, and Maya, and great-grandsons Miles, Julian, and Leon. He will also be missed by his former daughter-in-law, Sandy (Smith) Jones and former son-in-law John J. Cole. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and faithful friends whose lives he touched deeply.
A 1951 graduate of Corbin High School, Willie went on to serve in the United States Air Force until 1952, when he was honorably discharged to care for and provide for his family. He later retired from Champion Paper Company after 43 years of dedicated service as a supervisor.
Willie loved his family deeply and devoted his life to their happiness. He was immensely proud of each one of them. A founding member of West Side Church of Christ, his faith shaped every part of his life and the relationships he built. His greatest passion was flying, and he treasured the many trips he made to Fort Lauderdale with his family. Known for his giving spirit and his constant desire to put others first, Willie built friendships and a legacy that will endure for generations.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Randy Hymer, Willie’s long-time devoted best friend and neighbor. They also offer sincere appreciation to Lorene Rose for the love and care she provided to Willie.
In honor of his quiet strength and a life well-lived, a gathering of family and friends will be held at Avance Funeral Home and Crematory, 4976 Winton Rd., Fairfield, OH 45014, on Friday, June 5, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
