Betty Strunk passed away peacefully on May 28th at 2:08 am.
Betty and her husband, Elvin Strunk, were married for nearly 60 years and had two children, Randy and Cindy, son-in-law Mike, daughter-in-law Mujgan, four loving grandchildren, Justin, Austin, Arianna, Evren and one great-grandchild, Braxton. She is also survived by her three sisters, Sharon Mills, Brenda Frankenstein, Mary Johnson, many nephews, niece, in-laws, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and June Frankenstein, sisters Laverne “Bootsie” Lightfield, Evelyn Burton, and her infant brother.
Some of her hobbies included reading, knitting, and flower gardening. She loved making crafts and quilts. She did not care about selling the things she created. Betty just enjoyed creating and letting others enjoy the items she crafted. Time spent with her grandchildren, family, and friends was most important to Betty.
Betty liked baking and cooking. Carrot and Blackberry cakes, Magic and Sugar cookies, and homemade pies were her specialty. She also enjoyed cooking a downhome meal of pinto beans, fried potatoes, cornbread and all the fixings. Anytime someone stopped by to visit, she always had food to offer.
Helping others was a big part of Betty’s life, whether that was spending time with them, providing a listening ear, or lending a helping hand. A big smile, caring conversation, and a huge hug were part of interacting with Betty for many.
Betty was filled with a kindness and warmth like no other. Although kind, she was also firm and stood up for what she thought was right. She will be greatly missed. What we all wouldn’t give to hear again some of the words she used during conversation “Honey, Oh God, Lordy, Okey Dokey, Shoot Fire, Jesus, Oh Crap, Mmm Mmm Mmm, Well Ain’t That Something, What The H*ll Is Going On, That’s A Bunch of Sh*t,” and every once in a while a few other choice words.
Plants and Flowers are welcome as are donations to the nonprofit organization IKRON Corporation, serving youth and adults with mental illness, where Betty volunteered and worked in their flower shop for many years.
