Grant Johnson, Sr.

March 17, 1910 — February 24, 2008

Age 97 of Hamilton, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2008 at Liberty Nursing Center of Oxford. He was born March 17, 1910 in Hamilton, the son of George and Malinda (Amis) Johnson. On July 3, 1931 Grant married Gladys Baker in Hamilton. She later preceded him in death on April 26, 1998. On July 23, 1999 Mr. Johnson married Loyola Long Schutte in Oxford, Ohio. Grant was a Veteran of the US Army and worked for Champion International Papers until his retirement in 1969. He was also a member of Washington Lodge No. 17 F. & A.M. and the First Baptist Church of Hamilton.

He is survived by his wife, Loyola Johnson; step-daughter, Dianne (Ron) Halcomb; Nephew, Sant Johnson, Jr; Nieces, Karen (Dick) Dooley and Judy Schroeder; sisters-in-law, Ruth Baker and Maren Baker; 4 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and many friends. Grant was preceded in death by his parents and wife; sons, Keith Johnson and Grant Johnson, Jr.; brother, Sant Johnson, Sr.; and grandson, Randy Johnson.

Visitation will be 10:30 am - until time of Masonic service (11:30 am), followed by funeral services, on Friday, February 29, 2008 at the Avance Funeral Home & Crematory, 4976 Winton Rd., Fairfield with Rev. William C. Brantingham and Jack Young officiating. Burial will follow at Millville Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Hamilton or Vitas Hospice.
