James Edward Pickering – 1939 – 2020

Fairfield, Ohio – James "Pick" Pickering passed away Sunday, March 15, 2020 at the age of 81.  James, who was born in Urbana Ohio, is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Hallie (Turner) Pickering; his children Dawana (Jim) Dittgen, Becky (Scott) Cortner, Robert Pickering; and his grandchildren Jason (Susy) Brunsman, Brad Brunsman, Amanda Brunsman, and Audrey Pickering.  James is also survived by his sister, Phyllis (Allen) Detwiller, and loving Sisters and Brothers in Law, Nieces, Nephews, Dear Friends, and especially life long friend, Jerry Damewood.

James was preceded in death by his mother, Elsie (Huffman) Pickering; father, Robert Pickering; and sister, Dorma Ross and brother, Richard Pickering.

James was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force.  Before his retirement, James owned and operated Pickering Excavators, Inc.   James enjoyed watching many sports including the Cincinnati Reds, Bengals and Ohio State football.  James was loved and adored by his family and respected by all who knew him.  Throughout his life, he was was an honest and fair-minded man.  He will be truly missed.

Due to the COVID-19 virus and safety of all friends and family during this difficult time, the family has elected to have a private funeral and burial with a celebration of James’s life to be celebrated at a later date.

In Lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Wounded Warriors or American Red Cross.
