As the daughter of an Air Force officer her love for travel began at an early age as her father was stationed around the country and world. Upon graduating from Fairborn HS she studied nursing at City Hospital in Springfield, Ohio and General Hospital in Cincinnati where she completed her training as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. She provided anesthesia services to area patients for over 40 years primarily at Fort Hamilton Hospital. She was involved in several community organizations. Through the Fort Hamilton Colleagues she initiated the SEEK (surgical education for elementary students) program, for which she gained a community service award. She also hosted and befriended over 10 Rotary exchange students from all over the world. She remained in contact with most of them and enjoyed sharing their life experiences. After her children left the nest, she and her husband traveled extensively visiting as many exchange students as possible.
