John T. Pack, Sr, 80 years of age, born June 28, 1939 to Floyd and Catherine Pack, passed away on May 2, 2020 after a long illness. He was predeceased by his wife, Judith W. Pack, and is survived by his husband James P. Wise, his sister Ann (Donald) Auerbach, his daughter Jenifer (Eric) Donahoe, and his son John (Kim) Pack, Jr., as well as his grandson, Joshua Pack.
He was born and raised Cincinnati, Ohio, graduating from Purcell High School in 1957. From there, he joined the Brothers Hospitallers of Saint John of God, where he discovered his love for nursing. He left the Brothers to start nursing school at St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in Dayton, Ohio in 1961. While in nursing school, he decided to join the Army, and enlisted as a student nurse in 1963. He graduated in 1964 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army Nurse Corps. He served in Louisiana, Japan, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Okinawa, Washington, DC, and Georgia. While in the Army, he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Nursing at George Mason University, and a Master of Science in Nursing at Catholic University of America. He retired at the rank of Major in 1983 and moved with his family to Cincinnati. He then worked at Christ Hospital for 13 years. He retired from Christ, and then taught at Miami University, retiring from there in 2004.
He was active in his parish of St. John Neumann, volunteering in their grief support group, as well as taking communion to home bound members of the parish. He was also a member of the Secular Franciscan Order.
Funeral services will be privately held on May 8. Memorial contributions in John’s name can be made to St. John Neumann (Cincinnati) or the American Heart Association.
