Merle Lewis Hennen

HENNEN

Merle Lewis Hennen of Fairfield, Ohio, age 90, passed away Friday, July 1, 2016 at Hospice of Hamilton, Hamilton, Ohio.  He was born on January 8, 1926, in Barton, Ohio.  He later resided in Columbus for many years.  He was married 31 years to his loving wife, Anne. He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the Navy as electrician aboard the USS Clay.  He was a member of the VFW and American Legion, and served his community faithfully for 50 years as an active member of Kiwanis International. Merle was owner of Schafer Rug Cleaners in Columbus for many years, and later retired from the City of Columbus. He was known for providing unselfish support, encouragement and hope to so many in the past 47 years, both in Columbus and Cincinnati, and will be remembered for that. Merle is survived by his wife, Anne; his children, Vikki (Ray) Spohn, Jodi Hennen, Tod (Safeya) Hennen, Bruce Hennen, Mark (Heather) Hennen; grandchildren Cory (Jenny) and Stuart (Alexis) Spohn, Zachary Leonard, Ian, Isaac, Israel, Addison and Stephanie Hennen and great-grandchildren Alex, Haidyn, Mason and Harrison Spohn. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 11AM at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 4601 Fairfield Ave., Fairfield, OH 45014 where friends and family may celebrate his life.  There will be a luncheon following at the church. In lieu of flowers, you may consider making a contribution to your local VFW or American Legion.
