Otha West Marlar

Otha West Marlar - 92 years old of Fairfield, Ohio passed away on May 3rd, 2022.  Son of the late Daniel Marlar and Ruby Cooper. On October 29th, 1954 he married the love of his life, Arlene Shafer, and they celebrated 67 years of marriage.  Devoted father of Brett Marlar (Carol), Denise Doans (Rick) and Alesia McCarnan (Steve).  Loving grandfather of Christina and Ashley Marlar, Melina and Westly McCarnan, and Austin Doans.  Loving great grandfather to Hailey Mae. Dear Brother of Tonya Marlar Thomas, Daniel Marlar, Jeffrey Marlar and the late Opal Feldman (Norb), Frieda VanNatta (Clarence) and Faye Mergett (Dale).  Loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, fought in the Korean War and received two Purple Hearts. He was the past commander of the DAV.  He belonged to the Knights of Columbus as a 3rd and 4th degree Knight. He was an Usher at Sacred Heart and Saint Mathias Church. He was also a manager of the first Babe Ruth Baseball League started by Joe Nuxhall in Fairfield, Ohio.  Visitation will be held Monday, May 9th, 2022 at Avance Funeral Home Fairfield, Ohio from 5pm to 7pm.  Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, May 10th at 10:30am at Sacred Heart Church, 400 Nilles Road, Fairfield, Ohio, 45014.  Father Larry Tharp officiating.  Interment will follow at Crown Hill Memorial Park.  Online condolences may be left for the family by visiting www.avancefuneralhome.com
