WHITE, Richard “Dick” Alan

Age 84, of Fairfield, Ohio passed away on June 1st at Hospice of Hamilton. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on May 9, 1936, the son of the late William Earl and Elizabeth( nee Moesta) White. Dick graduated from Western Hills High School in 1954. While attending the University of Cincinnati, he joined Delta Tau Delta Fraternity and later received his B.S. Degree in Metallurgical Engineering in 1959. As he worked toward his Master’s Degree at The Ohio State University, he married his wife of 59 years, Nancy Staubach, on June 11, 1960. Upon graduation from OSU in 1961, Dick began serving in the Ordinance Corp of the US Army, specializing in the study of missiles. He was stationed at Aberdeen, Maryland, Huntsville, Alabama and White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico. After completing military service, he returned to Cincinnati and began working as an engineer for Procter & Gamble and retired from that company in 1994. Dick’s interest in trains and model railroading began as a child and lasted throughout his lifetime. He was an active member of the National Model Railroad Association and a local model club. Cameras and photography were another lifetime interest that led to his being awarded The City of Fairfield Government Service Award in 2006 for his photos of city events.  During the 28 years he was an active member of the Fairfield Civitan Club, he served as the Treasurer and assisted with the management of the girls’ softball league. During his retirement, Dick was a member of the Fairfield Historical Society and a charter member of the Fairfield Community Foundation. Dick is survived by his wife, Nancy; sons, Daniel, David (Vicki Overbeck) and Donald (Michelle) White; sister, Laurel (Jim) Howell and brother, Tyner. He also leaves grandchildren, Chad (Jenn) Ely, Kate, Nicholas and Collin White and great grandchildren, Jaden and Caleb Ely. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Stephen. Private services will be held, followed by internment at the Rose Hill Mausoleum in Hamilton, OH. A celebration of his life to be held at a later time.
