Ronald Puska Obituary

Ronald D Puska, 79, passed away peacefully at home after a 5-year long battle with cancer, surrounded by family, on May 1, 2022. He was preceded in death by his wife, Christy, his parents, John and Lillian Puska, sisters, Mary Smith and Helen McCreadie, and brother, John; his Calabria sister-in-laws, Paulette Gansel and Rosalie Morris, and brother-in-law, Lew Hollinger.  He is survived by his brothers, Don (Mary Lou) Puska, Jim (Gloria) Puska, and Tom (Becky) Puska. He is also survived by his Calabria family, Marta Hollinger, Noreen Cress, Marianne (Brian) Halcomb, and R. Erin (Ed) Sopiarz. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews, and life-long friends.  Ron graduated from Fairfield High School, and enlisted in the Navy, serving in the Vietnam War. He was a stellar athlete during school, in the military, and beyond. Ron lettered in four sports in high school- football, baseball, basketball, and track, and achieved several records for the football team.  He was given multiple awards for his participation on several All-Navy teams. After the Navy, he played Semi-Pro football for 2 years, 28 years of fast pitch softball, and then finally retired to a life of some great golfing, which included 2 hole-in-ones at our local golf courses. He was inducted into 3 halls of fame: The Ohio State Amateur Softball Hall of Fame, The Butler County Softball Hall of Fame, and the Fairfield Athletic Hall of Fame. Ron volunteered for Fairfield sports programs for many years. Any pay that he received for working the football games was donated back to the program and to the Ron Chasteen scholarship fund. He was a charter member of the Fairfield Touchdown Club and the Fairfield Alumni Association. Both Christy and Ron continuously supported Fairfield athletes, providing equipment needed and paying student’s fees if needed.  Ron, aka “Poo” will be remembered for his story telling, silly antics, his laugh, friendship, and his generosity to so many. Special thanks go out to his caring friends/neighbors who helped Ron care for his yard the last few years, and family who have helped care for his beloved dogs, Buddy and Daisy.  Visitation will be on Thursday, May 12th 5-7pm, with the service following, at Avance Funeral Home, 4975 Winton Rd., Fairfield, Ohio. The family request donation in his memory to the Animal Friends Humane Society instead of flowers.
