Sandra Mae (Hilmershausen) Ronningen

Sandra Mae (Hilmershausen) Ronningen of Deerfield Township, OH passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 9 at Hospice of Southwest Ohio at the age of 82.  She was born in Marathon County, Wisconsin on May 1, 1939 to the late Herbert and Evelyn Hilmershausen.  She was a 1958 graduate of Marathon, WI High School and attended the University of Minnesota.  She married her husband, Keith, on February 9, 1963 in Wausau, WI.  Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Jeff (Karen) of Symmes Township, OH and Steve (Jennifer) of North Ft. Myers, FL plus grandchildren Madeline Ronningen, Alexandra Ronningen, Sam Smith, Kolbe Compton and wife Kaitlyn, and great-grandchild Konner Compton.

She is also survived by older sister Carol (Dale) Smith of Lac du Flambeau, WI and younger sister Bonnie (Ed) Radant of Eau Claire, WI, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Keith Ronningen, who passed away in 2016, and nephew Travis Smith.

Known to all as Sandy, she took great joy in spending time with family and friends.  Her home was always open to visitors and she was a gracious host.  She never forgot a birthday, anniversary, holiday or other special occasion.  Having been raised on a farm she was an excellent cook and had a strong work ethic.  She was a member of St. Marks United Methodist Church and prior to that of Augsburg Lutheran Church.  She was an avid golfer, having been a long time member of Hamilton Elks Golf Club and the former Wildwood Country Club in Fairfield. 

The family will accept friends at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church at 4601 Fairfield Avenue on Saturday, June 26 beginning at 10:00 AM followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 11:00am with lunch served afterward by the church.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be considered to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
