Wanda Joyce (Lake) Kiefer passed peacefully into her eternal home in the early morning hours of July 28th. She was born on February 3rd, 1938 in McKee, Kentucky to James Austin and Opal (Medlock) Lake. She was the oldest of five daughters. Wanda graduated from Hamilton High School in 1956 and attended business college. She worked as an Executive Assistant to one of the vice-presidents at General Electric. In 1958, she met the love of her life, John P. Kiefer III and they eloped on July 26th, 1958. To that union, three daughters were celebrated. She worked as a homemaker and secretary in her husband and father’s electrical contracting company, J & J Electric. She was a talented artist. She loved to read, go to the theatre, and listen to music. She was a wonderful cook with published recipes. She baked many memories for her family to remember.
She is survived by her three daughters, Beth (Dave) Hensley, Lorri Kiefer-Toler, and Cindy (Gary) Bown, her grandchildren, Andy (Nicole) Hensley, Mark (Kelly) Hensley, Kate (Jon) Motsinger, Doug Toler, Ally (James) Bowling, Gary L. Bown Jr. and Annalee Bown and her great-grandchildren, Eva, Aubrey, and Avery Hensley, Dani, Sam, and Mikey Motsinger, Kevin, Justin and Elijah Toler, and James, Karlee, and Maci Bowling along with one special niece, Lisa (Ronnie) Hawn and one sister, Martha (Roy) McDaniel.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John of 59 years, her darling granddaughter, Megan Toler, son-in-law, Doug Toler, her parents, and three sisters, Sonja Hawn, Nancy Clay, and Austina Gentry.
Per her wishes, she will be laid to rest in a private family ceremony at Hickory Flats Cemetery on August 1st. Her daughters would like to thank nurses, Joy and Tristen, at Tri-County Extended Care Rehabilitation Facility for the outstanding care she received during her final weeks. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you make a donation to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, your local VFW association, or your favorite charity.
